The World Race naturally forces you to give up a lot of the things of this world. You can’t bring your gym weights with you, you can’t bring your entire wardrobe, you can’t bring all your friends (unless they want to then praise God).

While packing for the race you realize just how little you are bringing and it terrifies you. You think of rare situations where you may need this one item so you see if it fits in your pack without making it weight over 50 lb.

While leaving the physical things behind, you don’t realize that you are also leaving behind the majority of the things you once thought made up who you thought you were.

At first, this process hurts. It even causes some confusion or frustration the first few months. You begin asking big questions about who you are or what is important to you.

Who am I if I can’t go to the gym each afternoon? Who am I if I don’t have grades to prove that I am doing well? Who am I when my outfits are the same for months?

After those pains, you come to find your identity was in the Lord the whole time. You realize that the things of this world can fall away: finances, friends, family, education, popularity, relationships, adventure, reputation, beauty, etc.

You find yourself lighter. You become more thankful. You become rooted and grounded in the Lord. You walk in the spirit because you know more of the Lord’s heart. You know who you are and whose you are.

From Luke 22:35-37,

“ Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”

“Nothing,” they answered.”

Nothing remains except the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Word of God does not return void.

The Word of God does not fade.

The Word of God is the source of truth that sets us free.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of God endures forever.

Be well. Love well. Mags
