Chicaman is becoming home now. We have an incredible market for fruits and vegetables, our favorite pizza place, our host family who welcomes us daily into their home, and the sweetest little kitchen- all while being surrounded by mountains.

Because our host’s heart is called to the surrounding villages, we get to meet people from various areas including pastors, Sunday school teachers, women, and children. On Friday, we met with eleven young adult missionaries from these villages who are traveling to Honduras next month for their own mission trip. They will be doing street evangelism, kids ministry, and house to house visits.

What if I told you that Guatemala is sending out missionaries? What feelings get stirred up within you?

The feeling I felt was conviction. I thought, ‘I traveled to a place where the same God that sent me here is also sending them out into the world to share the good news.’ Woah! God is using missionaries here for mobilization, training, and discipleship in order to send more.

God is calling missionaries from many nations! I’m learning that people from differing nations bring new perspectives and avenues to reach unreached communities. It often opens doors North American believers can’t open. Guatemala is a third world country. I have observed how being an underprivileged nation has established a deep level of dependence on God that I believe presents powerfully in ministry. Think about that for a second, what if it was easier to give up everything? Would it be easier to step into the call God has for your life? Would it be easier to leave your home to devote your life to Him?

I am simply inspired by my now peers who have stepped out in faith to travel to Honduras. It was an honor to share with them my heart for missions and how God has again and again pursued me to be obedient. And now, here they go!

Luke 9:2 says ”and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God to heal”.

Prayer Requests!

  • Raise up more believers in Guatemala to bring in the harvest

  • Ask God to create radical mission movements from people of every tribe and tongue

  • Incredible discipleship and training for those being sent out

  • Safety for the young adults being sent to Honduras

Be well. Love well.

  1. Maggie, it’s so exciting the things God is already teaching you!! Isn’t it amazing other countries are also sending out missionaries. In my small mind I think of the poorer countries but how rich their walk with God is!! Go God!!

Praying for you Maggie!! I am a neighbor to your sister!!

  2. Maggie,
The Missionary/Sending God is Our God. The God of Abraham,Isaac and Jacob.

“And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.””
    ??Revelation? ?5:9-10? ?ESV??

Great insight on the less entitlements or underprivileged 3rd worlders who are more dependent on God, and have less of a struggle to leave their little behind to embrace the sheer joy of co-laboring abroad , maybe where Christ has never named yet.
Awesome stuff Maggie, what a vision cast to the heart!

“Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.”
    ??Mark? ?10:29-30? ?ESV??

The Guatamalans must really believe Jesus 🙂

  3. Maggie this was awesome! You are killing it and it sounds like your hosts/ministries are awesome. So glad you wrote about the missionary groups here in Guatemala. Their faith and passion for the Lord are unmatched. Much love!

  4. Man oh man, this IS convicting! How much more can I spread the gospel in my own backyard especially for me coming off the field! Incredible push Maggie! I love this too because it’s an encouragement that God’s heart for us to share His love with the Lord is not just for those that are sent “away.” We are ALL sent. Something to sit with for today and reflect on….

    Thanks sis!

  5. Maggie, I am so excited for you. It’s amazing to hear the ways that God is moving there. I am praying and will continue to pray these prayer requests. Praying also that God would empower and strengthen your faith in this time as He leads you step by step. Love ya!

  6. Maggie, you remind me of what I heard at Immanuel, years ago, when some Lutherans from our area traveled to visit our sister church in Malawi. They returned with stories and the following unforgettable exchange. They told their hosts they were amazed how the Malawi Christians were so faithfully loving their neighbors when they had so little wealth. The Malawi’s response was “but we are amazed that you can be faithful when you have so much!” Truth and Love come together in Jesus, stirring our hearts and minds and opening our eyes and ears. Thanks be to God for you!
